eBooks!

Now, almost 6 months after the release of The Dreamers, (can you believe it?!) this story of Sam Kullen has been released on 4 of the biggest eBook selling companies in the entire world. Very cool. : ) If you enjoyed The Dreamers, or are not willing to pay a whole 10 dollars for it, or would simply like to read it (again?) on your eReader... now you can! I think I'm starting to sound like a Cable TV commercial. : /

These platforms are: The Amazon Kindle, the Barnes & Noble Nook, the Sony Reader, and Apple's iBookstore. If you own any of these devices (or virtually ANY Apple product,) The Dreamers is available on your eStore.

To get to your estore so you can find it again on your eReader, (lots of e-'s!) click a link below that is compatible with your device.

UPDATE 3/15/12:

Having attended a few workshops (at the Idaho Book Extravaganza), concerning eBooks, I can tell you that I believe that this new platform is a wonderful place that is sure to expand for both writers AND readers!

Before I close this post, I have to thank BookBaby, the company that formatted The Dreamers to fit these eReaders. If it weren't for them... well... I'd be in trouble. : ). Thanks, guys!

Enjoy!

Book signings!

This last Friday, I was able to have a book signing at Hastings in Boise! It was my first official book signing, where it was ALL me. I have done it in schools, before, and that is always wonderful. However, I am competing with other books, and people have to purchase separately. During my NaNoWriMo Midway Day party at Rediscovered Bookshop (Boise), I was helping sponsor NaNoWriMo--a wonderful program! This one was truly my own book signing. People purchased the books at the checkout counter after I signed it for them--it was great!

I have also done book signings in many elementary schools in the Treasure Valley & Boise area. I really do appreciate when schools allow for me to do this. I love and look forward to doing these every month! It really does mean a lot! Please see my Thank You page for more info about these schools. Thank you again!

December and January are going to be months off, however, I would LOVE keep doing them during the winter months. My book signings at book fairs will continue in February. (Thank You SO much Diane, for letting me tag along!).

If you would like to sponsor or invite me to your school or store for a book signing, please contact me at oliverdbooks@hotmail.com. I can help set up any manner of events, whether that's a reading, see post Author Reading, or a simple signing, I would love to work with you.

NaNoWriMo

It's a big word. It's a confusing word. It gets the best of us saying, "NaNo--what?!" It causes even the greatest of authors to shudder with horror. (Or laugh aloud in joy, depends.) It's... NaNoWriMo.

What is NaNoWriMo? NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writers Month... (the first 2-3 letters from each word, not just NNWM. NaNoWriMo is just more fun to say.) But what IS it? It is a program that challenges writers nation and world-wide to write a novel in a month. The month of November, to be exact.

NaNoWriMo challenges writers, authors, and anyone with a novel in them to write that novel! For the adult program, (http://www.nanowrimo.org/) these writers must attempt to write 50,000 words in ONLY the month of November. 50,000 words, as far as I can tell, is about 200-400 pages long in a printed book. For the kids, us young writers get to choose and set our word count goal. Whether that's 10,000 words, or 45,000... whatever the number may be, we have to try and write that many words... in a month.

Why would anyone do such a crazy thing? Well, to be honest, I don't know. Maybe because it's a lot of fun! (With the right mentality, believe me, it is!) Or, maybe because it's a cool bragging right! Not many people can say that they've written an entire book in a month! Or maybe, for some, it is simply something to cross off of their "Wanna do" list.

As for me... I don't know why I did NaNoWriMo. I suppose because it sounded like a fun challenge. Maybe it was for the bragging rights. I don't know. But I did it... and I'm very glad that I did last year! Between the end of the 5th grade, to Christmas Break during 7th grade, I was rewriting one of my unpublished books out there. (It's still in the works.) When I finished, (on the winter solstice, actually!) it was over 550 pages long. Unfortunately, as I began to read back on this book during this school year, 8th grade, I discovered that my writing skills had become a lot better than when I had written them. I discovered that I needed to re-write the entire 550 page manuscript, one chapter at a time. I was extremely fond of this book, and wanted it to be the best it could be before I turned it in to a publisher. Wait... what does this have to do with NaNoWriMo you ask?

Well... nothing really. This just goes to show how NaNoWriMo changed my life. If it weren't for this crazy program, I would still be re-writing this long book. Because of NaNo, I was inspired to write another book. Eventually, my NaNoNovel was published, thus making me a 13 year old author. The Dreamers was the novel that I wrote in ONE MONTH last year. (I know, I still can't believe it!) It inspired me to take a break and write something else. Because I DID write something else, I have had a wonderful ride this fall and now winter season. (Thank you NaNoWriMo!)

For you writers reading this post... you really should look into NaNoWriMo! The adult NaNo link is above, the kids page for NaNo can be found at http://ywp.nanowrimo.org/. I found this program to be a ton of fun in 2010. Think of it this way: even if you don't complete the novel in a month... aren't you that many hundred or thousand words further along than you would have been if you HADN'T participated?

This year, so far, (the 28th of Nov.) I haven't yet passed 10,000 words. I'm being honest. My goal is 30,000 words. I still have to multiply my word count by 3 in order to meet my goal. In two days. I'll definitely be in Boise's "Last Minute Brigade".   : )

Holiday!

Hello, Dreamers of the world!

I apologize for not posting in a while, and not even posting consistently & regularyly. Now, for the holiday season, (already, can you believe it!?!) I will post once every two weeks. Every other week. And... hopefully consistently afterward at the beginning of the respective week. I look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully, you, I.

In addition to the holiday season, it is NaNoWriMo again! For those who don't know... NaNoWriMo is the program in which I wrote The Dreamers... a program that challenges writers all over the nation and world to write a novel... in a month! This proved to be a LOT of fun last year, (Trust me, you have to have quite a bit of insanity in you for it to be fun... let alone to participate!) So... I am doing it again this year. My word count goal is quite a bit higher than last year, and I am giving myself more of a challenge. This Wednesday, November 16th, I will be signing books for a NaNoWriMo Midway Day party to help celebrate being halfway done with NaNoWriMo. (Though in my case, NOT my book! I still have a few tens of thousands of words to go...) This year, I am writing a book entitled, Beneathe. Yes. It is spelled funny on purpose. : )

This book takes place underneath the city of Paris, France. Under the Eiffel Tower, the sewers, the trains, the catacombs... there is an unknown world inhabited by strange creatures, in strange lands. Ian Grant gets thrown into this setting by a cereal box. He won a trip to Paris sponsored by the cereal box company, and soon finds himself deeper than anyone before into the mystery, danger, and horror of this world. He is enslaved, freed, challenged, and sent on quest after quest to save this world... and his life.

I am very exited about this book. (Thank you SO MUCH to Evan Lenn, who gave the original idea for this story to me. I hope to use it well!) This will definitely take a lot longer than a month to write. Maybe the first draft... but the final draft will take several months, if not years. There is so much that can happen in this book... It could be hundreds of pages long! (Over 500, at least!)

Thanks for reading! I hope you will look forward to future posts as much as I do!

Top 50 Idaho Authors 2011!

The Dreamers has won its first award! This weekend, October 28-29, the Idaho Book Extravaganza will take place. I entered one of its contests in which Idaho authors compete for the title of "Top 50 Idaho Author." Since I was going to be at the event anyway, I decided to try. Less than a month later, I learned the The Dreamers had gotten me that title. Hooray! I am very proud of this accomplishment.

Sneak Peek on The Nightmarers!

Today I finished writing The Nightmarers. Editing will take a while for sure, but for now... the writing process is complete! Since the story line may change, I won't go into any detail about it's story line, but I will tell you the basic idea. Sam rebuilds the Dreamers, and soon they have replenished the missing numbers. Soon, however, they discover another world... another Dream Realm. While exploring, Sam discovers that The Dreamers aren't alone... that there is another group like them. And the Dreamers they thought were lost in the battle with Malfix aren't as lost as they had once thought....

I am really excited about The Nightmarers, and I hope that you are, too! As a teaser, I just bought the cover image today. (It's pretty awesome if you ask me!)

What do you think? It looks pretty cool! I'm pretty excited for this to come out. I hope you guys are too!
Also, The Nightmarers trailer is complete. Enjoy this as well!

1 month!!

Today, the ninth of September marks the 1 month anniversary of The Dreamers. And what a month it has been!

I have not posted recently as I have become busy with school, and other extra-curricular activities as many of you Dreamers out there have lately. I am thirteen... and that means school. Being a published author doesn't change that, somehow. ...Just kidding. ;)

Anyway... after one month of The Dreamers being out, nearly 50 copies have been sold, in a slight increase! If that keeps it up... who knows? The Dreamers Adventures has had over 1500 views--thank you so much viewers!!!--and the book is also available as an eBook! I have had a brief booksigning in an elementary school, and have planned many more to come. The Dreamers is available on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com as well as a few other online retailers. This month has been quite a ride. I hope that each one improves after the last and that The Dreamers will eventually become a bestseller!

Of course, none of this would have been possible if not for YOU! So... what else to say, other than... thanks! It really does make my day when I see that I've sold another copy, or that I've had a hundred some-odd views in the past day! Thank you SO much!

With the new free Kindle reading application, if you have an iPad, iPod, iPhone, Android, Mac, or PC... you can read The Dreamers! You simply download the app, and then purchase the eBook on your device, through the app. Those of you who are familiar with the process will know what I mean.

The Dreamers is available as an eBook HERE.

If you want more information reguarding the Kindle, the Kindle app, or any other eBook info, you can learn more on Amazon.com

1000 views!!

WOW! I turned on my computer this morning, and came to The Dreamers Adventures. I scrolled down to the bottom & I see the number 1,036! Today and yesterday have been AWESOME! All day long I've had visitors led from Facebook and other places on the Internet, I had a view from Vietnam, and over 100 views YESTERDAY alone! Today already I've had 40+ views and it's only just after 9:00! Thanks everybody for checking my blog out! Even if you don't buy the book, by looking at my blog, you learn about it, and the book, and people KNOWING about my book is pretty cool! And, now, with over 1000 views...well, that's a lot of people! One person can't make that many views! Also, it wasn't just 1,001--it was 35 views above that! Thank you!

Now that The Dreamers is out, people can buy it, and, well... people have! Thank you SO very much for doing that! Thank you, thank you, thank you! All I can do now is sit and wait and see how you like it! When you finish, please take the time to fill out the poll at the bottom of the page above the "How many views?" widget. The Dreamers is Finally Out!

The Dreamers
The symbolic burning letter "D" and the cover for The Dreamers...
That letter is just everywhere!

Hooray! The Dreamers is out! After hours of writing, hours of editing, and hours of revising, it has all payed off! The Dreamers began in November, and now, over 8 months later, it is complete! Now, finally, as a published author, I am unsure how to describe the feeling. It's sort of... unreal. It is amazing that now anybody in the entire world can read my book--read the words that I wrote, and (hopefully) enjoy them! Who knows... maybe years from now the day August 9th will go down in history as the day The Dreamers was published! I hope that you enjoy The Dreamers as much as I did! Any day now, I can go to a bookstore, and set up a book signing, or do stuff like that! It's a very rewarding feeling. As I have said before, being an author must be one of the most rewarding jobs out there, even if you don't earn much money--the feeling of knowing that someone out in the world has read your work is a very satisfying feeling.

Every member of my family has helped in some way to this book, (perhaps excluding 15-month-old sister) and so we made kind of a party out of publishing. As I am self-published, most everything I did was on computers. I didn't need to mail anything in, I just downloaded the file and followed the online instructions. This basically means I could publish by the push of a button! Pretty cool! We took a video of the final button-push. Here it is!

There we are! Hooray! It's out!!! I hope you all get a hold of and read it. I really hope you enjoy it! PLEASE tell me what you think by taking the poll on the bottom of the blog. I really would LOVE to hear from you. Feedback is always awesome to have!

The Dreamers is available:
-in some bookstores, and if yours doesn't carry it, PLEASE request it!
-in some bookfairs, mainly school bookfairs. If you are a student whose school does bookfairs, PLEASE request it, again!
-on Amazon.com,
-directly from my publisher, HERE.
-Barnes & Noble (.com)
-some academic and public libraries,
-and many other places as well. It is also available on some other online and offline retailers

List price is $9.99--Thanks SO much for reading and buying, and by all means--enjoy!!

Within a month!

You read the title--In 1 month The Dreamers should be out. Of course, I can't know that for sure, but that's the goal, and right now that seems extremely plausible! It's pretty mind-boggling, thinking that a month from now (hopefully less than that!) Anybody in the entire world will be able to read what I have written by buying my book on Amazon.com. Being an author has got to be one of the most rewarding jobs out there!

Okay everyone--the countdown is on!

Wow! Thanks everyone! 500+ views for the blog and the book isn't even out yet! That means a LOT! This is Oliver, but I'm sure Sam would be excited, too! :)

Surprisingly enough, I've had nearly 10 views from Germany as well! --I guess you can get anywhere on the internet. Cool though, now I can say I've had views from "all around the world"--Just kidding.... :)

Anyway, thank you so much everyone! Family, friends...me.... Next time I'll post when we get to 1000, then maybe 5000 and, who knows...eventually a MILLION or more!

What do You Dream by?

Hey everyone, Sam here. Sorry it's been a while since I've last posted. I've been pretty busy on The Dreamers, doing some final edits on it, working hard in the Dream Realm...and enjoying Summer Break! I can now spend much more time in the Dream Realm now that I don't have to get up so darn early.

Really sorry The Dreamers isn't out yet--editing has been quite extensive. If one thing is wrong, you could misunderstand it, and that wouldn't be good. It's best that the book is EXACTLY as it happened in real life.

Anyway, the thing that got ME into the Dream Realm was imagining, day dreaming, exaggerating, whatever you want to call it. Part of me getting into the Dream Realm could have also been my love art--drawing, doodling, all the stuff in art class. I also like to write. When I do, my writing brings me to places I've only barely seen. I can read back on them and remember what I saw in my mind then. You can see my love of writing in The Dreamers, when it comes out.

This post is asking YOU what YOU dream by. Does playing piano take you to another world? Or sitting on your bed, thinking? What about designing new buildings and machines? What takes YOU places? What got YOU into the Dream Realm, and how does it help--how does it take you places?

Thanks guys

Author Reading

Hey, I'm Oliver, the REAL author of The Dreamers. I'm intruding. Sorry for the interjection, Sam.  :)

Anyway, at my school today, I was chosen to read an excerpt of The Dreamers in front of my school. I read the introduction, which explains what the Dreamers are and how the group formed. The video's shown below. Check it out.

Congratulations! You've officially seen an author reading! What do you think? I LOVE to have feedback, especially from my readers. And now that you've seen this... you are one!

For you who are curious about the REAL author of The Dreamers, this is for you. I am thirteen years old, and am going into the eighth grade this school year. I live in Idaho and am the oldest of five children. I am a rewarded musician, engineer, and, of course, writer. I wrote this book for NaNoWriMo. What's this? Check it out! Google it. I self-published it after a LOT of editing, re-writing, and revising. The rest is history.

Today I hope to become an accomplished author through writing. I have many, MANY, ideas for future books, and feel as if The Dreamers is only the top of the iceberg, as they say.

Again, The Dreamers comes out this Summer, and I am looking forward to having it out. I hope you're as excited as I am to have it! Thanks SO much!

Paradisa

Hey guys. How's everyone doing? Happy Memorial Day weekend! That means an extra day of the Dream Realm for me.

Anyway, I was just thinking about Paradisa, in the Dream Realm. It's a pretty neat place. I think it's kind of mean, though, too. We can never stay there forever, even though its the place we want to be most. And its strange that its different for everybody. Thought provoking. What's Paradisa for you? Is it your backyard? A favorite National Park? A peaceful lake valley in the mountains?

Thanks guys,
Happy Memorial Day,

P.S. The Dreamers should be out this summer! I can't wait for it to be out for you guys!

The Dreamers Out Soon

With more and more of my time spent in the Dream Realm, the publication of The Dreamers has been delayed. I had been expecting for it to have been out last month, but it may not be out until this summer or later.

Sorry for the delay,

Me and YOUR experiences

Hello Dreamers of the world! I've got a bit to talk about.

First though, welcome! Are you liking this blog? I hope so! Anyway... I think its important that you know a little about me.

Let's get to the point. If I eventually end up in history books, this is what they can include in it. Otherwise, I don't think there's much information out there about me.

So... I am 13 and in the seventh grade. I'm really your average kid (When I'm awake that is!) I go to school, dislike it, along with homework, and all the other work we do there. I have a younger sister, an over-concerned mother, a camping-savvy father, and your stereotypical rogue best friend. (His name's Gabe and both his parents are cops. He could be considered a juvenile delinquent, I guess.) I'm the leader of the Dreamers, the head honcho, and am doing my best to teach the next generation of Dreamers. I'm hoping that this blog will help do that. What else...? Oh! Nowadays, I'm fighting on a different Dream Realm of sorts, against a cult similar to ours, but with bad intentions, called the Nightmarers.

Reading back, I realize I'm talking about school and my family, and then all of the sudden about my secret life as if it were just as normal! That's life as a Dreamer I guess. Some of you guys know what I mean--you've been to the Dream Realm. Why don't you share your experiences? Together we can tell future Dreamers what it's like! So... yeah!

Answer these questions in your comments:

What's it like in the Dream Realm?
What's your favorite territory there?
If you had to cross one territory, which would you NOT choose?
Is the Dream Realm similar to Earth? Why?
Is the Dream Realm awesome or... not so much?
Would you go to the Dream Realm for vacation?

All right--thanks guys!

Dream on!

Hello! Welcome!

Okay. You've probably read or seen my book somewhere. (The Dreamers) Chances are you know what I'm talking about. But for you guys who have NO CLUE as to what the Dreamers are, this is for you. And realize that I'm taking a HUGE risk sharing this with you guys--you've got to keep quiet. I don't want to have my brain tested on... :)

Of course, I probably better welcome you to this blog. Here I can tell you when my most recent Dreamers books are coming out, what I mean by "Great Wall of the Ice Caves," excerpts, along with lots more. Without further ado, here goes:

All right. I am a Dreamer. A Dreamer is someone with an imagination so large it breaks the boundary between reality and the Dream Realm. This Dream Realm has been visited by many since perhaps the dawn of time--we don't really know!

However, a man by the name of Edmund Huntle started our group when he saw the true potential the Dream Realm had in the early 1900's. Several decades later, the Dreamers were flourishing and saving the world. But then... Malfix. Malfix came along and wanted to use the power the Dreamers used to save the world to pamper himself, because he was a nobody. So, we had a big war, and an apocalyptic ending. (If you want to know more, my introduction and prologue are just what you need!)

Hey, if you haven't read the book, I'm not gonna tell you more. If you have read it, then you know what happened. Then again, if you have read the book, you already know the stuff, and probably didn't need to click on this in the first place....

Sorry--just my imagination at work.

So... I don't want to give anything away yet about book two. But I will tell you what's going on right now in the Dream Realm.

The Dreamers is rebuilding. Now, there are no adults--it's all kids now; kids with HUGE imaginations. I'm teaching them up, and we are slowly coming back to what the Dreamers used to be. It's been slow, like I said, but steady. Then, one day we are surprised. We realize that not EVERYBODY is dead...

Ha! Now you want to read book two! But... that isn't even the end. The Dreamers and I realized that the Dream Realm isn't the only realm. There are others, and with them... the Nightmarers. We just discovered this fact last night... and I have been asleep, dreaming, most of today. I woke up and realized I'd better share it, just in case I don't survive long enough to actually publish book two....

That would stink...

So... I'm kind of nervous, knowing we're not alone. If I don't post any more, well... you'll know what happened to me.

However, hopefully that won't be the case, and you'll hear more from me! But as for now, I must say: try to become a Dreamer! Enhance your imagination. Draw pictures, write stories, imagine what the Dream Realm is like, read, play music, design a building,  do whatever you do best! We really need your help!

Plus: if you have any questions just drop a comment below and I'll try to answer it! Or, you can email me at oliverdbooks@hotmail.com.
